As someone who works directly with children who have ASD, this book is a key element in my library for the parents I work with. There are few situations that are not listed in this book, making it easy to locate a story to read with a child. I refer to this book almost daily and can’t imagine not having it. I highly recommend this book to any educator, related service personnel or parent who works or is living with a child with autism.

I bought the book after reading heaps of info about Carol Gray and her social stories. Unfortunately the book could possibly benefit 3 year olds and young 4 year olds. Certainly children any older will not get any benefit from it. For me it was a complete waste of money and I have since donated the book to the local library.

The book itself was ok, but what I bought it for was to use it during school time and it didn’t have much to use at school. What I needed was social stories I could use with my students at school situations. For home and outside of school there was some great social stories but not enough for me.

I work with moderate-profoundly autistic preschoolers (ages 3-5) both with and without comorbid mental retardation. I was tempted by the book because it says it has stories for things my students are often frightened of including trips to the hairdresser and having nails trimmed. However, the stories in the book are much too high level for these children to understand. For the right age range, this book could be an invaluable resource and a great time-saver. I would say it would be more appropriate for higher functioning students with disabilities including Asperger’s Syndrome and school age students with Autism. Overall a good product, just not for my age range.
